Fee-Fi-Fo-Fuck

One ring down, I walked the narrow loop, searching for the entrance to the inner circle. Finding nothing, I repeated what I’d done before. I placed my hand on the filmy barrier, trying to break it, only to find myself once again sucked through. This time, however, I didn’t find a hot island girl.

I barely registered the Ancient One when a taloned hand almost the size of my body swatted me against the far wall. It might have looked soft and cloudy, but it felt like stone when I crashed into it. Fuck me! That hurt. Speed was going to be my only advantage with this one. Unfortunately, I wasn’t fast enough to avoid the massive gnarled foot that punted me against another wall.

Bolting up this time, I avoided his other foot and the long, horn-like toenails that would have split me in two. I dashed between his legs, getting behind him to give myself some breathing room and a moment to assess. This Ancient One was a prototype for the one-eyed giant Cyclopes, but not as friendly.

He stood at least three stories high, his body covered in a thick, coarse hide. Arrows and blades would barely make a dent. He was so vast, it was difficult to see the blocky, big-eared head atop his gigantic body. What I saw far too clearly were crusty feet bigger than me.

When Dad and I spoke, we had a feeling I might be dealing with this one. I patted my back pocket, checking for the only weapon that might work on him. I had to lay him low, though, if there was any chance of defeating him. Like the later Cyclopes, his weakness was his eye. He had only one large eye in the center of his head and his eyesight was quite poor. That might have been why the demon prison was white. This Ancient One needed the contrast to see me.

Poor eyesight or not, he was kicking my ass. Lumbering in a circle, he found me again and, with a roar, charged. I sprinted away, racing around the loop. Howls of frustration followed me past the curve. Like Tara and Maggie, he must have been trapped in here for a couple of weeks. No wonder he was raging. I wouldn’t make much of a meal, but I’d still be the first thing he’d eaten in too long.

“I smells you,” he grumbled. The stench hit me like a shovel to the face. His circle stank compared with Tara’s, but it was more of a wet-sweaty-gym-locker smell. His breath, though, was like someone had thrown open the door on a septic tank. “I’ll be picking my teeth with your bones.”

There was no place to hide, no way to get to higher ground, and running in circles was a piss-poor plan. The floating prison shuddered with every step he took in pursuit of me.

I made it around the circle and stopped, yanking the black tee over my head. I threw it as far as
